This session is absolutely one of my favorites! We photographed first in Ponderosa State Park where I made them balance on stumps and then moved to a private beach to the dock shots. I am DYING over these dock shots!Read More
As I wrap up Kyle and Kylee's wedding album, I couldn't help but jump on here and share a couple highlights from their wedding day! They were married in the gorgeous St. Stanislaus church in Lewiston, Idaho. We were able to sneak away for a few quiet moments to capture their portraits and then they partied the night away with their closest family and friends.Read More

McCall wedding photographer, Brie Thomason, photographed this snowy editorial in the winter in McCall. This shoot was published in Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine.Read More
This beautiful shoot took place in a very small town outside of Mountain Home, Idaho called Pine. I had fallen in love with the location when my husband and I were up exploring the mountains one day. I felt so inspired by the river, that I knew someday I was going to do a photoshoot there. As a Boise Wedding Photographer, I am always watching the surroundings for what could be a great location for a shoot. I love to have many options for my clients to choose from for locations.
This shoot was such a fun project for me. I had a vision in my head and an inspiration mood board, but I was still extremely challenged about how I was going to make it all come to life. I met Kimi and Gabe, my models for the shoot, at a coffee shop in Boise. I was the creep who gave them a business card and asked them if they'd ever want to do a photo shoot with me. I saw their chemistry while getting coffee and knew that they would be so fun to photograph- and they were! These two were so madly in love, they made my job ridiculously easy!
We were racing the rain, which is never fun! We knew it was supposed to be a rainy day, according to the forecast, but we saw that a little bit of a break was coming in the morning and we wanted to take advantage of it! It stayed dry until I was finishing up my very last roll! Granted, I probably would have kept photographing them forever. They were just too fun to capture!
A great team of local Boise wedding vendors came together for this shoot! Please check out their information and websites below:

Aloha! I'm sure it seems silly to be reading that if you are in Idaho and freezing right now. I am actually in Maui for the next couple of days. I was hired to come out and shoot a gorgeous oceanside elopement! The wedding was stunning and I will share images with you as soon as I get them back from my film lab.
As a Boise wedding photographer I get the opportunity to photograph gorgeous Idaho weddings and a few weddings in neighboring states. It has been such a treat to get to visit Hawaii and also get to photograph here.
Enough about Hawaii, let's talk about Austin and Whitney! Gorgeous is an understatement with these two and their fall engagement session. They told me they wanted fall colors and a cool location and I knew just the spot to take them! Fall is actually my favorite season, so engagement sessions in the fall just make my heart happy! It was such a treat getting to photograph these two.
I hope you enjoy!
I'm sitting in my house literally snowed in right now! I always wondered what this would be like and now that it's actually happening I can report that it is very strange! All morning I didn't have internet and my phone was having to be used as an emergency hotspot at our coffee shop, so I spent all morning technology free AND snowed in at the same time! It shouldn't have been a big deal, but I cleaned the house and then felt a little lost.
I'm happy to report that the internet is back and my phone is back in hand, so my life can resume like normal! Sad, so sad, but so true. While I cuddle up in my blanket and watch cartoons with my nephew I figured it would be good time to share one of my favorite engagement sessions from this last summer!
I think it goes without saying that Suzannah and Kelly are one stunning couple! I was instantly excited and inspired when they stepped out of their car dressed in the outfits that they chose! Suzannah's dress is exactly what I would dream that my clients would choose for an outfit for an engagement session. The color was perfect for the location and her skin tone as well! I've had several clients ask where they can find a similar dress and I have found a similar one here.
I am so excited to photograph their Boise wedding this summer! We are going to have so much fun together!
Johnny and Jenny; that just has a ring to it, does it not it? These two are seriously so adorable! I loved meeting with them in McCall to photograph their engagement images. We started at one of my favorite river locations and then moved into my other favorite location, which is an Aspen grove. These images demonstrate the sweet, gentle love that these two share. We also included Johnny's Harley Davidson because it was one of their first dates! I love when couples find a way to tell their love story in their images. I absolutely cannot wait to photograph this wedding! These two have amazing style and their love is so genuine!
Brie Thomason Photography // McCall Idaho Wedding Photographer Let's talk about major goosebumps here for a second! Brennan and Jess live in Canada and came up to McCall, Idaho for the Fourth of July. Brennan contacted me several months ago about him going to propose to Jess and he wanted to find a local photographer who could capture the moment! I felt so honored and so stoked to be that photographer! Because they weren't very familiar with the area, I suggested that Brennan take her up to Osprey Point inside of Payette National Park in McCall, Idaho. I sent him a few photos of the area and he thought that it would be perfect! What we didn't talk about would be the exact spot that he would drop down on one knee, but can we all agree that he nailed it? Yes, Brennan, you boss!
So how exactly did we pull this off? My husband and I pretended to be tourists. We took selfies, pictures of each other, snapchat videos, you name it. We were trying to hard to act normal, but keep watching them out of our peripherals. Thank goodness I brought my partner in crime because I wouldn't have been able to pretend as well as I did having him there! Having him there was also fun because he was able to snap chat and save the entire process so that I could share it with everyone and also send them the video too! So fun!
Guys, if you are considering hiring a photographer to photograph your proposal, do it! Don't even think twice. It is so fun to have these photographs forever and always be able to go back and see how it all went down. I would love to help you get something set up so please contact me if you would like to set something up!
Alexie and Jake are one of my favorite couples! I met them both in high school in Lewiston, Idaho and never thought that someday I would be their Lewiston wedding photographer! There is nothing that means more to me than getting to share in a couple's most important day. When I asked Alexie what her favorite thing about Jake was, she said his patience. It was amazing to see that play out on their wedding day. Jake was beyond patient with me as the photographer, and the entire wedding scene. He was grateful and kind to everyone and that was so special to see knowing that it was Alexie's favorite thing about him!
Alexie is kind of a badass, she has played hockey her entire life and is a local hockey coach! She is tougher than nails and yet, sweeter than anyone you've ever met! Her smile lights up the room and encourages everyone around her! You can see when she smiles at Jake just how much he appreciates that quality about her!
Another thing about Alexie and Jake that I love so much is that they both love to cruise just as much as my husband and I! In fact, they got engaged on a cruise ship! Jake packed the ring in his parent's camera case, and the way he tells the story he makes it sound like Alexie was a little confused by how protective Jake was being about the camera case getting on the ship safely! Of course she had no idea why he was being so protective over a camera, but I'm sure she was glad that the case made it safely!
I hope you enjoy seeing a preview of their day!

Alison and Mike opted to have a small, intimate McCall Idaho wedding at the Shore Lodge and it was so dreamy! As a McCall, Idaho wedding photographer, I love nothing more than when people choose to have a destination wedding in McCall.
McCall provides the perfect background for your special day regardless of what season you choose to do your wedding. McCall is so unique because regardless of what season you choose to visit, there is beauty and always something to do! If it is summer, people often enjoy the lake and the sandy beaches, as well as the famous Ice Cream Alley. If you visit during the fall and spring, the trees and weather are so perfect that you will do anything you can to just be outside and enjoy the fresh air! People often enjoy hiking and exploring the Payette National Forest during those seasons. Winter might just be the most popular time to visit McCall due to the amazing skiing at Brundage Mountain Resort, and also the famous Winter Carnival that happens every January. As you can see, there is always something to do, which is why guests love visiting McCall for a destination wedding!
Now back to Mike and Alison! These two were seriously amazing to work with! Mike is a chiropractor in the Boise area and Alison is an Athletic Director at Northwest Nazarene University and together they are a power couple that is full of love! While they choose to have a smaller, more intimate wedding they didn't skimp on the fun and important details. Alison chose a gorgeous bouquet from Just so. Event Floral that I couldn't keep my eyes or camera off of! Another one of my favorite details of their day was when Mike sent iced tea to Alison's room the morning of the wedding because he knew it was her favorite. It was such a sweet sentiment and I had to capture it so that they can look back and remember it years from now.
I hope you enjoy seeing their sweet day!
Brie Thomason Photography | Boise Wedding Photographer
This past weekend I got the chance to go to Portland, Oregon and mentor under one of my favorite photographers, Bethany Small Photography. She was the photographer that I hired to shoot my wedding last August and she did a seriously amazing job! We have very similar styles, so it was really fun to see how she shoots in comparison to me and learn from one another. She is definitely someone that I look up to as a Boise wedding photographer.
Bethany’s sister and brother-in-law came and modeled for us and seriously rocked it! They are absolutely gorgeous and so outgoing and fun to be around, so photographing them was a dream! When they smiled and laughed the entire group started to smile and laugh. As a photographer I love to be able to make the experience fun for everyone and not an awkward or miserable. That is part of the reason that I love to shoot couples! When you are with your best friend it is so much easier to be yourself and relax, rather than being alone in front of the camera.
We started the session at Barista coffee in downtown Portland. Of course I had to start with a coffee- that is a necessity in my life. There was gorgeous lighting coming through the window, so we photographed them through the front window before going outside. The houses around NW 23rd Ave in downtown Portland are seriously amazing! You will see some staircases and some vine walls that were just down the street from Barista. I love exploring with my couples and getting a variation in the location and even outfit variations to change up the look of the session! We didn’t have to go very far at all to get several very different looks.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Bethany Small for spending the morning with me and answering all of my crazy questions about her journey in photography. Photography is a never-ending learning process and I eat it up! I love to spend my free time trying to grow and become the best that I can be for my clients.
Get in touch!
Yesterday I spent my evening with some amazing photographers from the Boise, Idaho area and we talked about our adventures as an Idaho wedding photographer. I have spoke about it in the past, but meeting with other wedding photographers is always something that feeds my creative soul and helps me to grow as a photographer. We started our evening by getting coffee at Java in Hyde Park in Boise. I got a Bowl of Soul, which is their signature drink, and it was exactly what I needed! After we laughed about all of our adventures as photographers we piled into my jeep and headed up to Table Rock in Boise. Table Rock is very special to me because that is where I got engaged! It is always so fun to go up there and stand on the rock where my husband popped the big question! These photos might be a bit deceiving because it was freezing up in the wind on top of the hill! I wore a wrap dress that I got at Bohme, and it was flying everywhere! It was fun for movement shots, but as soon as I was finished being the model I ran to my car and put on pants as quickly as possible! I am a wimp!
I hope you love these behind the scenes photos of these amazing girls! They are all so special to me. I fall in love with my art every time I am around them, and there is nothing that can replace that! They inspire me to be better than I am, and their support is unwavering. They will always shoot it straight and help me to be the best that I can be for my clients. I love asking them for advice when I am stuck on an edit, or looking for posing ideas. Like I mentioned, they are seriously the best!
Bre and Arich ventured out to the Bruneau Sand Dunes with me and we spent a couple of hours under the stormy skies of Idaho! As a Boise Idaho engagement photographer I love getting to capture the real moments that a couple shares during these intimate sessions. Engagement sessions are such a great way for a couple to get comfortable together in front of a camera before their wedding day! I love getting to spend a little time with my couples so that they can see how I direct and pose and they can be prepared for their wedding photos. Engagement sessions are so fun! They are so laid back and relaxed. We get to just go adventure together and capture all the love in between. Couples who are recently engaged have an energy that is unmatched and I love capturing it! I spend time capturing poses of the couple, detail shots of your bright new shiny ring, and also some individual shots.
As a McCall Idaho wedding photographer I have had several potential clients ask me about the gear that I use. Sometimes they ask because they want to know that I am coming to their wedding prepared with all the gear needed to capture their beautiful wedding. Other times they ask because they are interested in photography and want to know what gear I use to create the photos that I take. Either way, I am not shy when it comes to sharing my gear and I hope that it helps anyone who is interested! I have added some pictures of my gear and examples of how I use them in this post.
If you remember from an earlier post, I am a hybrid shooter which means I shoot both film and digital. During the day I primarily shoot on two cameras the Nikon D750 and the Nikon D610. When I do portraits and detail shots I will use my film cameras. I have two different film cameras, the Nikon F100 and Nikon FM2.
My favorite lens is the Sigma 35mm 1.4. I use this lens mostly on my D750 and use it to capture most of the wedding day. The 35mm lens is a normal-wide angle lens and allows me to capture the whole room without any zooming. This lens creates a strong sense of presence and place and helps capture the emotion that I desire to shoot as a photographer.
My other favorite lens is the Sigma 85mm 1.4. This lens is so dreamy! It is a short telephoto lens with an extremely flattering focal length! It is sharp and crisp. I use this lens when I need to get closer to the scene without moving closer physically and for portraits.
Now, my favorite part! Film! I typically shoot Kodak Portra films (160 and 400), which have a gorgeous grain that isn't too overwhelming. It handles shadows and light in a way that is unmatched. Film is typically softer than digital, but to me evokes even more emotion. I typically shoot both of my film cameras with 50mm 1.4 lenses. The FM2 is from the 1980's and is fully manual, so it is definitely harder to focus. The F100 allows me to use my current FX lenses on it, which means it focuses just like my digital SLR cameras.
You will notice I included a Lara Bar in my bag! This is not a joke! I always carry Lara Bar's around with me. The ingredients are dates, cashews, and other fruit- that is it! They are so delicious and always keep me going during a long wedding day.
Another thing shown in the picture is my Moneymaker strap from Hold Fast Gear. This camera strap allows me to hold two cameras at once and not have to use my hands! It has changed my life!
You can see my Nikon SB910 flash in the picture above, but I did not include the rest of my flash setup. I prefer to shoot natural light for most of your day, but I will bring out my flash setup for your reception and dancing photos. I have three strobes that communicate with my camera via transceivers.
The other thing not pictured is my bag! It takes a good, sturdy bag to hold all of my gear and I have found one that I think is perfect! I love my Jude bag from Kelly Moore Bag. It can be very heavy, but it holds every single thing I own! Okay, I lied, it does not hold my big flashes, but they came with their own bag so it holds nearly everything I own!
If you have any questions about my gear feel free and ask in the comments and I will reply back! Gear can be extremely intimidating if you are just getting started in photography. I remember the struggle of trying to decide what I wanted and what I needed and how I would use them to achieve the look I was aiming for.
As an Idaho wedding photographer, I started out trying all different genres- family, maternity, newborn, seniors, engagements, and weddings. I wanted to find what would fit my style and challenge my creativity the most. While I loved something about every genre, there was something so addicting to me about weddings! The love and connection that happens at weddings is something that cannot be duplicated in any other session. I should also mention that I am obsessed with all the small details that a wedding includes- the shoes, veil, jewelry, decorations, and flowers. Ahh! They just get to me.
Once I discovered my passion was in weddings, I spent the next year honing in on my style. I learned a lot about myself, my gear, and how to channel my visions into the wedding, but still capture the couple exactly as they are! It's my goal to have my couples look at their wedding album and see themselves exactly as they are- just maybe a little more glamoured up! This is why I have classified myself as a Fine Art photographer. The Knot describes a Fine Art photographer as:
Fine Art: Though it's similar to documentary photography, this style gives the shooter greater artistic license to infuse their particular point of view and style into your photographs. So while the shots reflect reality, it's the photographer's reality. The photos are dramatic and gorgeous, but are—or look as though they were—shot on film with a grainier, dreamier, more muted appearance. Usually the object (or couple) is in focus and the background appears to blur. Motion also looks very natural in this style of photography. The few wedding photographers in the world who shoot only on film tend to fall into this category, and typically they shoot in black and white, though some will do a mix of both. That said, a photographer using a digital camera can still capture this style with the right gear and camera lens. And some photographers will alternate between digital and film. Not all photographers who take a fine-art approach shoot portraits, so if it's really important to your mom to have posed family shots, look for someone who does both, or consider hiring a second shooter for the portrait sessions.
Did you know I am what is called a hybrid shooter? I shoot both film and digital! When I shoot digital, I edit in a way to imitate film as closely as possible. Why do I do this? In my opinion, film has a look that is unbeatable! I love the subtle grain that film creates and the colors are just almost too good to be true. So why don't I shoot film all of the time? Weddings are extremely fast paced and full of a lot of different lighting situations. Due to all of the complications that could potentially slow me down, I have decided to shoot 75% digital at weddings and shoot film for moments like bridal portraits, photos of when the couple and I are alone, and a few getting ready details.
So what does all of this mean for you?
If you are looking for an Idaho wedding photographer you have a lot of things to consider. The photos from your wedding are going to be a part of your life forever. You should choose a style that fits exactly what you are looking for. If that is not me, I will understand! I just want you to get the most from your experience.
So is my style the right fit for you? If so, let's get in touch! I would love to talk more and see if we are a good fit!
McCall, Idaho Christmas Tree Hunting
When I started photography, my goal was actually to just create beautiful pictures of my life. I never thought that my journey would lead me to get to photograph beautiful weddings, loving families, and adorable children. I am so thankful for every opportunity I have been given to share my love for photography with clients and friends. I am also happy to report that my dream of capturing my life in photographs is now a reality!
A big reason that I have been able to get to where I am at in my photography journey is because of education. I push myself to always grow and better myself. Part of that journey for me has been to take my personal photos using my film camera rather than my digital camera. My camera is from the 1980's and it has no automatic features. Everything from the focus, aperture, shutter speed, film speed, you name it have to be set by me and!!! After I take a photograph, I cannot look at the back of my camera and see if I need to make it brighter, darker, or even see if it is completely out of focus! It has been such an exciting journey! You will see some of these photos are not perfect, but I am 100% okay with it! I mentioned that this is a journey, which means that every time I shoot a roll of film I grow and I get better.
This Christmas we wanted to go out and cut down our own tree in McCall, Idaho. My husband, brother, and his girlfriend and I climbed onto the side-by-side and started our trek through the two foot deep snow in search for the perfect tree! We were squished in space, to say the least, but our laughter could fill the entire forest. A snowmobiler went by and stared at us with a perfect "good luck" smirk on his face, but we didn't care, we just kept on our path. We had to stop a couple of times to dig ourselves out, but we wouldn't trade any of it for anything!
I'm happy to report that we found the "perfect" tree! It might not be perfect in tree lot standards, but it was perfect in our eyes. I am happy to report that it also fit inside the house, which is a bigger problem than you'd think!
I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas season with their family!
As a McCall Idaho wedding photographer, this was a dream! McCall is one of my favorite places on Earth, so when Brandon and Tara asked me to shoot their wedding I was beyond excited! The Shore Lodge in McCall, Idaho is a gorgeous wedding venue and I can't wait to shoot there again!
The Johnson family is one that just makes you believe in love all over again. Brandon has the ability to zone out everyone and everything in the world and focus solely on his bride. Except there is one small catch, Brandon also has eyes for one other woman in the world, and that is his new daughter Violet. Violet has so much personality, she makes me laugh to the point of tears. I can't wait for you to see this wedding because you will get to see how much love the three of them share and you can smile and laugh and cry just like I did as I went through these photographs.
One of my favorite parts of this wedding was during the ceremony when Violet just decided she wanted to be part of the main action and went up and grabbed Brandon and Tara's hands. She loved the ceremony and it is so obvious that she can't wait for the three of them to be a family.

Daniel and Yesii's Boise, Idaho wedding was one for the books! They had all my favorite things as a Boise Idaho wedding photographer: great location, great lighting, and wicked great emotion. Every photo seems to tell a story, and those are my favorite photographs as a wedding photographer! I love to tell stories and if a picture is worth a thousand words, then this wedding has millions! Have fun reading...I mean looking...same thing ,right? I was so blessed to get to shoot this wedding as second shooter under Kaye Murphy from Oh Kaye Love Photography. She is an amazing girl and she taught me so much during our wedding together! Daniel and Yessi's wedding was full of emotion and that is honestly one of my favorite things about being a Boise Idaho wedding photographer! Emotion captured in camera is so gorgeous! It is memories that will be cherished forever!
